The knowledge Victor Frankenstein was trying to gain was how to create life. This was looked at as forbidden because people believe that only God and God alone should have the power to create life. After he created his monster he says ".... Now I know what it's like to be God!" I believe that his creation was worth it because he is the only person that has been able to create life other than God.
